These video files are rather large and will take a while to download to your computer. After you click on the video you wish to watch, you might press "pause" on the video and let it download before hitting "play". Even though I saved the videos in 320x240 in .flv format, they are still over 9mb in size. |

In the Spring of 2008, I met Rick Shanholtzer with Frontier Aviation in McKinney, Texas. He was rebuilding 2 Packard-Merlin V-12 engines for a P51 fighter based at Cavanaugh Museum in Addison. Here, he has mounted one of the engines to a special truck and is starting it up for the first time after the rebuild. Next, I went up to Air-1 Services in Denison, Texas, and met with Terry Rogers. He was in the process of rebuilding the P51 fighter for those same 2 engines. Terry had completely taken the P51 down to the smallest pieces and the team at Air-1 was rebuilding this plane from the ground up. In these interviews, Terry talks about rebuilding the P51, and also talks about rebuilding a P47 that they have in the shop. |
